Shanxian county speeds infrastructure development to promote tourism ( chinadaily.com.cn ) Updated: 2013-07-17

Shanxian county, under the administration of Sanmenxia city, plans to invest more than 3 billion yuan ($489 million) in the coming three to five years as it speeds infrastructure construction to boost the development of its tourism industry.

The county's plans concern the development of a total of three 4A tourist sites and four 3A tourist sites, and it also aims to construct two five-star hotels, two four-star hotels and two three-star hotels.

The three 4A tourist sites are Gaoyang Mountain, Ganshan Mountain and cave dwellings surrounding a sunken courtyard in a local village. The four 3A tourist sites are the Kongxiang Temple, Xuehua Valley, the Shennong Gorges and the Yuanbao Mountain.

One of the 4A tourist sites, the sunken courtyard in Qucun village, has already been developed and is open to visitors.

The county's tourism development plan also refers to three tourist routes – the cultural relics route, the leisure and vacationing route and the folk culture route – in a bid to cater to different tastes.

The county is expected to receive 1.769 million domestic tourists and 3,230 overseas visitors this year, with revenue from domestic tourists expected to reach 1.48 billion yuan and revenue from overseas tourists expected to total $1.497 million.

Sanmenxia, a city in western Henan province, has rich tourism resources, and the city government has made tourism one of its priority industries.

During a visit to the Yanzi Mountain forest zone for ecological tourism in Lingbao county on July 2, Party chief Yang Shuping said tourism is one of the pillar industries of the city, and called for the construction and improvement of tourism infrastructure.
